Product Alliances
BioInvent has secured a number of collaborations with other pharmaceutical companies for the development and commercialisation of its products. BioInvent's current partners are ThromboGenics, Roche and Genentech.
ThromboGenics (www.thrombogenics.com)
In 2004 BioInvent and ThromboGenics Ltd began a long-term
collaborative research and licensing agreement to co-develop
antibody-based drugs for the treatment of vascular indications and
cancer. The collaboration brings together a rich portfolio of
expertise in the areas of disease biology, antibody discovery,
development and manufacturing. BioInvent contributes its experience
of antibody discovery and manufacturing, its clinical expertise and
its knowledge of immunology; ThromboGenics contributes its research
and clinical development skills in the areas of vascular medicine
and cancer.
Under the terms of the collaboration the parties share costs and revenues. Two programmes are currently included in the collaboration. TB-402 is a fully-human anti-Factor VIII monoclonal antibody that is being developed as a novel anticoagulant therapy. We are interested in out-licensing this product for late-stage development and commercialisation. TB-403 is a humanised antibody targeting Placenta Growth Factor that is being developed as an anti-angiogenic drug for the treatment of cancer and other diseases, in conjunction with Roche.
Roche (www.roche.com)
In June 2008 BioInvent and ThromboGenics entered into a license
agreement with Roche for the anti-cancer agent TB-403. Under the
terms of the agreement, Roche will have a worldwide, exclusive
license to develop and commercialise TB-403. BioInvent and
ThromboGenics will retain co-promotion rights for the product in
the Nordic, Baltic and Benelux regions. Roche has assumed
responsibility for all future development costs for this novel
therapy.
BioInvent and ThromboGenics received an upfront payment of EUR 50 million and could receive up to EUR 450 million over the term of the collaboration dependent on a series of development and commercial milestones being reached. A technology transfer success fee of EUR 5 million was paid in January 2009. The companies will also receive double-digit royalties on product sales.
Genentech (www.gene.com)
In January 2007 BioInvent entered into a co-operation agreement
with major US biotech company Genentech to jointly develop and
commercialize BI-204, a candidate drug for the treatment of
multiple cardiovascular conditions. Genentech has a strong track
record of developing and commercialising antibody-based drugs.
Under the terms of the agreement, Genentech and BioInvent will be
jointly responsible for clinical development, and throughout
development the two companies will share the development costs.
Genentech received the North American rights to the drug, while
BioInvent retained rights for the rest of the world. As part of the
deal BioInvent received a US $15 million upfront payment from
Genentech, and could receive further milestone payments of up to US
$175 million as well as royalties on sales in North
America.
